Weights Don’t Make You Bulky, Cupcakes Do

A common misconception that has been around for a long time is the idea that lifting weights will make you bulky. In reality, lifting weights can help you in developing a lean and toned physique. Conversely, a diet high in calories, unwholesome fats, and sugar can result in weight gain and a less ideal body composition. To attain your fitness goals, it’s crucial to concentrate on healthy nutrition and training rather than fearing weights. On this episode of The New Helix Experience podcast, Tim Frey shares about Weights Don’t Make You Bulky, Cupcakes Do.

You’ll Learn:

  • Why women shouldn’t be scared of lifting weights

Weights don’t make you bulky. Cupcakes do. Wow, what a viral post that I had. Actually, my second most viral post I’ve had on my Instagram of all time. And I met a real about it.

00:00:14
But essentially the core component is that a lot of people think that weights make you bulkier, especially women.

00:00:21
Like I do weights. I’m gonna get bulky. I need to do lots of cardio and I’m going to lose weight when in reality the thing that’s making you gain weight is not weight. It is what you eat.

00:00:33
Weights don’t make you bulky cupcakes do. That’s the reality and buy cupcakes. We mean food, and I had a bunch of people drop in and.

00:00:41
Comment and they.

00:00:41
I just love cupcakes and I’m like, I know you love cupcakes, obviously.

00:00:47
It’s more the fact that continual cupcakes daily will not be good for your physical appearance, so you need to weigh up.

00:00:55
Do you want to look good or?

00:00:55
Do you wanna like cupcakes?

00:00:56
Cause you know there’s an easy choice here and there’s a hard choice.

00:01:00
And we get a little bit deeper into this.

00:01:03
And I like to. Well, I do think that more people need to spend more time on their.

00:01:10
Physical appearance by taking care of their health rather than taking the easy choice which is eating.

00:01:15
Whatever you want.

00:01:17
Weights don’t make you bulky because women have about 10% of the sex hormones that men do. And what I mean by sex hormones is growth hormone and testosterone, which are very big for building muscle.

00:01:30
So you’re 10 times less likely. You know on that math to build muscle like men do. Obviously, women do build muscle.

00:01:39
I’m not trying to say that women don’t build muscle, cause I’ve seen plenty of girls that aren’t on juice and by juice I mean steroids that have built a good amount of muscle, but they’re definitely not bulky.

00:01:53
So that’s just his big myth that was probably perpetuated by some marketing genius at some group fitness style business, you know, 20-30 years ago, which was carried through.

00:02:04
And I know there’s a lot of girls that don’t eat cupcakes and they do cardio and they just end up like stick thin.

00:02:12
So it depends what kind of look you’re going for. I think there is like a happy medium and a happy balance between having a healthy diet and doing weight for overall health. I think doing weights for women is key.

00:02:24
Increasing bone mineral density, building some lean tissues to gain strength, to be powerful, to be strong, to be resilient.

00:02:33
I don’t think the answer is not doing weights for women, especially I think like the desired body or physique these days for women is built by doing weights. I don’t think it is not.

00:02:45
But I would hate for a woman to be scared to do weights because of the fear that they will get bulky because the reality is it’s very hard to get bulky. I know guys man who can’t even gain.

00:02:56
And they have like, 10 times the sex hormone of women and they can’t ******* gain weight at all and gain muscle.

00:03:02
So it’s not as easy as magazines will let you believe, but it is very easy to gain bad weight, especially for someone that doesn’t have a great metabolism and doesn’t work out often. So.

00:03:15
Just be aware.

00:03:17
I can’t believe this went viral and I can’t believe I need to address this on a podcast, but.

00:03:22
Honestly, like doing weights is the best thing you will do for your health or one of the best things you ever do for your health because there’s a cascading effect.

00:03:29
From doing weights.

00:03:29
It’s like all of a sudden you do weights, then you want to take care of your nutrition after you take care of your nutrition.

00:03:35
Then you want to take care of your sleep after you take care of your sleep. Then you just want to not have a bad sleep ever again. So.

00:03:41
You stop partying so much. You stop drinking. You stop taking drugs.

00:03:44
And then as a cascading effect of improving your overall health.

00:03:49
Which is an incredible thing to do and that all starts with weights and if you don’t do that, it’s harder to start that cascading effect.

00:03:55
It’s just like the byproduct and the next step and the next step and the next step. It’s like the the cycle of becoming the best version of yourself, in my opinion, starts with doing weight and or hate for a woman.

00:04:08
To not do that because they think they’re going to get bulky when that’s so far from the truth, I could.

00:04:13
Where you case studies of hundreds of women that I’ve trained that look incredible and definitely don’t look bulky by any means, and they’ve all done weights and that was the big commonality between them.

00:04:24
They did weights, they burned calories, they built like a little bit of lean tissue. They lost a heap of fat and it completely changes their body shape to an incredible.

00:04:34
Right. So if you’re someone that’s worried about getting bulky from doing weights.

00:04:39
Drop it, cause guys can’t even get bulky and they’re.

00:04:41
Trying to get bulky.
